BIOGRAPHY
Kaitlyn Farrington is quickly working her way up the ranks of the freestyle snowboarding world with big time results that foreshadow the makings of an athlete who will make waves in the sport. Farrington landed on the Rookie Team in 2008 and since has pushed her progress, taking silver at the Dew Tour and a big time gold at Winter X Games Europe. Now Farrington's graduated from rookie to pro team, and will likely continue to blow the competition away.
KAITLYN SAYS
Last year's season was just a rough season because everyone was really stressed out with all the Olympic stuff. When I just got to hang out in February and ride, I was able to really improve so I could win the Euro X Games. I'm really looking forward to next season because it will be much less stressful and more mellow.
FIRST TRACKS
While in fifth grade, Kaitlyn's mom attempted to teach her how to ride at Sun Valley's Lower River Run. "Everyone was laughing at me from the chairlift," she said. "I just kept catching my edge." She wasn't frustrated, though, and packed away her alpine skis later that day. Then at the urging of her snowboarding buddy, Heather Black, she joined the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation's snowboard team in ninth grade and made U.S. Snowboarding's 2008 Rookie Team as a junior in high school.
OFF THE SNOW
If I'm not on the mountain people can find me surfing …or at least trying to surf. I like to hang out with my friends in Salt Lake City as well.
