A special report from U.S. Snowboarding Halfpipe Coach Bud Keene: U.S. Snowboarding's Elena Hight (South Lake Tahoe, CA) and rookie rider Kaitlyn Farrington (Sun Valley, ID) went 1-2 in the women’s superpipe final of the Dew Tour’s second stop this past Saturday. Only Spanish fireplug Queralt Castellet’s third-place finish kept the U.S. Snowboarding women from sweeping the top five spots with fellow rookies Kelly Marren (Hillsborogh, CA) and Lizzy Beerman (Weston, VT) were fourth and fifth respectively.

The second-place finish is Farrington’s first career pro level podium, and gives her a needed boost of confidence, as well as a $10,000.00 payday. Her backside 5, corked frontside 7, cab 7, air-to-fakie, cab 9 run was easily the most progressive and well-grabbed run of the women’s final.

Asked how she felt in the corral at the bottom of the pipe, Farrington said her overwhelming feeling was one of "relief". She went on to explain: "Everyone has been telling me that this was going to happen, but I was starting to think that it never would. It feels really good!"

U.S. rookie Dylan Bidez (Minturn, CO) finished just off of the podium in fourth with an air-to-fakie, cab 10, front 9, back 5, front 10 run that seemed too big for the pipe. Other rookies with good finishes included Trevor Jacob (Mammoth Lakes, CA) in ninth, Broc Waring (Edwards, CO) in 11th, Matt Ladley (Steamboat Springs, CO) in12th, Zack Black (Breckenridge, CO) in 13th, and Ross Baker (Squaw Valley, CA) in 15th.

Perfect conditions and an X-Games sized crowd were on tap for the competition, which was broadcast live on NBC.
